Are people really getting angry over the “I AM NOT GAY” comic, this one to be specific?
Are people really getting butthurt over the artist simply picking a character that is known to be really awkward around homosexual people and joke around with it?
You know, the same character that is proved to be far from being a good guy and even if he tried he never reached far, so it’s kind of right that he’s still a dick?
Are people all bend that every character ever cannot have bad traits if they touch subjects like these?
Are people really forgetting that it’s a god damn character and that the comics are trying to convey the message that people do not magically learn out of nowhere how to be good people, especially if they were dicks their whole life prior to this point, and that every side one takes has pros and cons?
Whenever or not you like the comic, that is your opinion and I respect it. But if you say that they are spreading messages like “Homophobia is right” and “Slut shaming”, then please just shut up or actually show me how the artist is doing so.
That the comics has it’s faults, that is true. But he is not spreading homophobia, he’s drawing an homophobic character that was, in multiple instances, regarded as a perverted idiot in a comic that shows how much movies seems to have this need to prove that the male protagonist is the most pumped, muscular and woman-lover being ever.
While it’s absolutely true that Tat still has a bit to learn about, y’kno, properly representing and addressing the queer community… and one should be truly upset about the things he fails to do because of it.. but like… if you’re honestly complaining about a strip that makes fun of the heteronormativity of action films as well as the slightly homophobic and “HAVE I MENTIONED I AM HETEROSEXUAL TODAY?” leanings of the main character… then… well… you’re absolutely missing the point.
And of course, I won’t hold it against anyone if they fail to miss the point, despite it’s obviousness in nature. But, really. If you want to criticize something - anything at all - more constructively then you need to be able to recognize the point, be familiar with the context and setting, and well informed on the subject matter you’re discussing. And, tbh, these folks don’t even have two out of three.
